Your first comedy show
Plan check-in, seating and the total cost before you book your first comedy show.

Read the bill
A showcase usually has several short sets. A headliner show usually revolves around one performer with an opener. An open mic can run longer and the lineup may change. Choose the format that suits your group, then look for the venue’s check-in cutoff rather than assuming you can walk in at showtime.
Estimate the cost per person
Add the ticket price and fees to any required food or drink minimum. If the rule is an item minimum, check which menu items qualify. For a group of four on separate reservations, ask whether the venue can seat you together before everyone buys.
In the room
- Ask the host whether seats are assigned and where to sit if you’d prefer less interaction.
- Follow the venue’s phone and recording rules. Keep conversations for the break.
- Tell the host if you need to leave early so you can sit where exiting is easy.
